Here’s an awesome place serving interesting takes on the usual faves, while helping local farmers. Half Saints Cafe delivers its promise of providing a divine dining experience.
Awaken all your senses with GREAT BALLS OF FIRE Php250. This is spicy risotto balls with shiitake mushrooms and mozzarella. The presentation was explosive! Okay, well maybe it didn’t explode, but there was fire. Flame on! The waiter torched the appetizer and it was a visual treat. It’s a treat to for the palate. Creamy with a kick to make my heart start pounding and crave for the next bite.
Another starter is the CHICHARRON TERIYAKI Php295, a crowd favorite. It’s teriyaki-glazed Camiling bagnet and cream cheese you wrap in nori. Crunchy, slightly sweet, and savory.
Here’s a must: PUFF PIZZA. The crust of their pizza has the texture and feel of a croissant and this fresh take is the beginning of a delicious relationship with my appetite. I had the ALL CHEESE PUFF PIZZA Php375, and this has mozzarella, cream cheese, parmesan and cheddar in marinara.
Go for gold with this sinful but still divine (hey, it’s half saints after all) dish: GALLO PINTO X RBM Php495. It’s dirty rice and beans topped with shredded beef, fried egg, green onions, bacon and… wait for it… roasted bone marrow!
Now for pasta. I highly recommend the THREE-CHEESE RAVIOLI Php380. It’s parmesan, ricotta and mozzarella cheese stuffed ravioli tossed in housemade marinara.
Also try their QUICHE LORRAINE Php275. Classic savory French tart with layers of bacon, caramelized onions and aged cheddar. But unlike the usual, this one bursts with bacon taste!
And lastly, here’s a drink that’s also my dessert: STRAWBERRY OREO Php180. The marriage of strawberry and chocolate, perfect!
One of the owners of Half Saints Cafe is Christine Roque. She’s a former journalist, founder of the advocacy platform Change.org, and a dear friend. We were both TV reporters so many years ago when she said one of her dreams was to become a chef. Dreams do come true and here she is now!!!
She said they named the cafe Half Saints, because it’s their saintly duty to help the locals by sourcing their raw materials from Tarlac, Benguet and Davao, among others. Why half? They say they’re still on earth and they will become full saints once their journey to heaven is complete. Whoa!!!
Eat good. Feel good. Do good.
